Words

Hi, everyone!  I haven’t had much time this past week to put together a whole lot, but I just wanted to share a few things with you.
Last week I had to write an eight-line poem as an assignment.  I could choose the topic, the metrical foot, and the rhyme pattern as long as it had eight-lines arranged in two stanzas.  True, this is probably more suited for The Avid Author blog, but considering I’m in the middle of a writer’s tips series there, I decided to share my poem with you here on Heart-chords instead.  I don’t claim to be a poet, but rhymes come pretty easy to me.  Here’s how it came out.  Just another reminder of how powerful words are and the effects they can have if we don’t take the time to stop and think before speaking.  “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness.  Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing.  My brothers, this should not be.” (James 3: 9&10)

Words
The pen hovered over the paper
Like an arrow o’er its mark
Words! So dull and inadequate
To express what was in her heart
 Oh, the heated argument!
The fiery words that tore them apart
And now slowly drew the pen I’m sorry
Words giving love a new start

And for two announcements…  As of October 1st, I can begin expecting to hear from Athanatos Christian Ministries concerning the novel contest to which I submitted my first book back in July.  I’ll share more on that later when I hear first word from them.
And secondly, Heart-chords and The Avid Author are going to be temporarily neglected for a few weeks because my family and I are going on vacation to New York and Pennsylvania.  We’ll be visiting Niagara Falls for the first time, attending at the spectacular Sight & Sound Theater to watch a play dramatizing the Bible story of Jonah, visiting family up there, touring the Gettysburg battlefield, and staying on a real Old Order Amish working dairy farm!  Lots of excitement ahead!  We’ll be returning on the fourth of October, and shortly thereafter, I’ll be resuming my blogging, writing about our experiences.  I’m going expectantly, and I’m so excited to see what the Lord’s going to speak to me to share with you all!  Until then, reader-friends, take care, and I hope you’ll check back in a few weeks to hear about the lessons I learn on our trip.  As a parting lesson though, make sure you don’t miss my post which follows, titled Time to Say Goodbye.

~We’ve all heard of the phrase “pulling on her/ his heartstrings,” but heart-chords?  I was struggling to decide what to name my blog.  I wanted it to be a name that was both creative and meaningful.  As I pondered, my gaze fell upon my acoustic guitar where it stands in my bedroom, and the Lord reminded me that our hearts- our lives- are instruments.  They are constantly in song, but what melody our heart plays is each of our own decisions.  They can play a melody for praise or for entertainment.  A musician selects his songs according to his audience.  So do we.  Whether our audience is the world or the Lord, our song will be different.  This blog is designed to first, increase my awareness in finding God and His guidance in my every day and second, to share the music lessons He teaches me in tuning my heart to learn the chords of praise He longs to play on my heart-instrument.  Music is a powerful tool.  Use it for His glory.  “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.  Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:3
