A Mother's Love

A Mother's Love

So forgive me for boasting, but I have the BEST mom in the whole world.  Maybe I’m biased… just maybe.  With Mother’s Day being this Sunday, what better time to write a tribute to my mom?
Between my dad and my mom, I am undoubtedly more like my mom.  In fact, it never ceases to amaze me just how much alike we are.  In appearance, we have the same nose, the same ears, and the exact same smile.  It stuns me to see how identical we look sometimes.  More than appearance, however, we are just alike in personality.  From our likes and dislikes to the same manner with which we face life’s ups and downs.  Even to the gentle, yet bold approach we greet each day with… although I may be a little more daring.
My mom has taught me almost everything I know from how to walk and recite my ABC’s to how to sew and bake.  But more important than skills, she has taught me the spiritual and moral lessons that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Over the years, she’s become much more than a mother to me.  She’s also my best friend.  We love just being together!  Watching movies, antique shopping, any kind of shopping, just hanging out, taking Starbucks and Sonic runs… it doesn’t matter what we do.  Even grocery shopping at Wal-Mart is fun when we’re together!  Maybe most of all though, we love to laugh together!  It’s an expression of joy that we cannot contain.
Mothers sacrifice so much time for us.  My mom homeschooled me and my two older sisters all through elementary school and highschool.  But do we thank them enough?  When was the last time we took the time to let them know just how much we appreciate and value them and all that they do for us?  When was the last time that we reflected on how much they’ve sacrificed for us from the moment we were born?  Mothers are a blessing in our lives.  There’s no denying it.  So don’t wait until Sunday to let your mom know how much you love her.  Say thank you to the women- the moms- in your life and don’t let another day go by without them knowing your gratitude.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” Proverbs 31:28

*One of the songs that my mom and I have claimed as our own is The Best Day by Taylor Swift.  I admit, I don’t care for most of Taylor Swift’s songs, but both The Best Day and Never Grow Up are favorites on my iPod.

~We’ve all heard of the phrase “pulling on her/ his heartstrings,” but heart-chords?  I was struggling to decide what to name my blog.  I wanted it to be a name that was both creative and meaningful.  As I pondered, my gaze fell upon my acoustic guitar where it stands in my bedroom, and the Lord reminded me that our hearts- our lives- are instruments.  They are constantly in song, but what melody our heart plays is each of our own decisions.  They can play a melody for praise or for entertainment.  A musician selects his songs according to his audience.  So do we.  Whether our audience is the world or the Lord, our song will be different.  This blog is designed to first, increase my awareness in finding God and His guidance in my every day and second, to share the music lessons He teaches me in tuning my heart to learn the chords of praise He longs to play on my heart-instrument.  Music is a powerful tool.  Use it for His glory.  “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.  Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:3

  3. This is a wonderful post and great tribute to your mother! This reminds me of my daughter and myself. We've had a very long hard road. She is now 20 and just the other day said "mamma... you are my best friend". I never thought I would hear those words come out of her mouth!

    1. Angie, thank you for checking out my blog! I always appreciate getting feedback on my posts. It's so wonderful to hear that you and your daughter enjoy the kind of unique relationship my mom and I have. It's truly a treasure, but unfortunately one that's becoming more difficult to find nowadays.
